Fraunhofer IPA Tests Band Saw Blades

In an independent test series, Fraunhofer IPA is comparing BICHAMP bimetal M42 band saw blades with products from other well-known European and international manufacturers. The aim is an objective assessment of their performance under defined practical conditions, based on ten test criteria across different materials, including stainless steel (V2A) and C45.

How We Tested
The test procedure comprised 5 break-in cuts in C45, followed by 50 cuts in V2A and a further 45 cuts in C45. Key process and quality parameters were evaluated, including power consumption, vibration, cutting pressure, squareness, thickness deviation, roughness, wear mark width and chip class. Measurements were taken with a Lorroch TC tool measuring device in combination with Delphin hardware and software for data acquisition, on a MEBAmat 330 band saw, between May and September 2026.

The Results
After completion of the first test series, the results across the examined parameters indicate a comparable level of performance among the band saw blades tested. A second round currently under way serves to validate them.

The results of the first test series already document the performance of BICHAMP band saw blades under defined practical conditions. In cut quality, dimensional accuracy and vibration, the BICHAMP band saw blades tested even achieved better readings than the calculated competitor average.
